Title: Holy Grails!!!
Post by: SPiN Racing on February 16, 2009, 08:25:30 PM
Ok welll being a fan of Monty Python.. I FOUND THE GRAIIIIIILLLLLLLL!!!!!

No there are no spankings involved.

I found the MOTHERLOAD of a Metal shop.

I have been paying 6-8 Dollars a pound for Stainless.. and paying 3 dollars a POUND for mild steel from the boat salvage place. And have found some really nice stuff there.

Well its all over for me.

I found the place...

The most expensive stuff they have is Brass and Bronze... 4.50 a Pound. And they have TONS of it.. chunks, blocks, rods, plates, you name it. a set of two racks.. about 16 feet long, COVERED with every size chunk and block that is possible to put on a dolly.

Steel is 30 CENTS a pound... to 60 CENTS a pound.
TOOL STEEL.. like 15 Grades of it... is at the most 1.60 a pound. Big blocks of it,  rogs, hex, you name it. And they rattle off the rockwell of it all and what is pre-hardened, not hardened, can be, cant be... you name it.

Stainless.. In grades from 304, 316, 312? or something.. and even 400 Grade? Plates blocks bars, tubes, pipes.. everything.

Aluminum.. they must have a corner on the market.. they have aluminum blocks that are like 3 FOOT by 2 Foot by 10 FOOT. And everything down to little cut offs..
Same thing.. bars tubes, plates, pipes, everything.
CHEAP!! I honestly dont remember but it was like a dollar a pound.. possibly 1.25 a pound.

This place is soo full of stuff that the ideas, and things I was looking for went right out of my brain when I walked in.

The guy gave me a bar of 1/2 inch tool steel grade 0? I think? That I will likely chop down to 2 inch lengths so I can mount some carbide index bits to.

OH and they have .095 wall DOM Tubing. 4.30 a Foot. Compared to 6 dollars Plus other places I found. Any length I want up to 20 foot.

If you are in Tampabay.. let me know.. we can go drool.

SO now I need to simply... wrap my brain around what I need.. and go there to get it.   :ddb:

I was thinking the same thing, only mine would be ex-wife.  :D

Maybe that's why she's an ex?  :ddb:
