Title: Hello, and Happy New Year!
Post by: WillieL on January 15, 2012, 03:54:17 PM
Hello folks. I found my way here courtesy of a friend from another part of the world. (DaveH) Something I would have never thought possible in my youth. Modern technology is a wonderful thing and something I have always been addicted to. Especially anything mechanical in nature. I often suffer from "Tim, the tool-man, Taylor" disease as in thinking "I can make it BETTER".  I'm sure you can all relate.

I have accumulated a modest number of tools and machines in the man cave that I get to play with. Sometimes I even manage to make and/or modify something that actually works! I do love to learn by seeing all the brilliant ideas and methods that folks come up with for solving problems on their own. There are some really creative and talented people out there. I just wish I were one of them....  lol.

I'm looking forward to seeing new horizons.

Regards,

WillieL

Hi, and thank you.

That is quite a complicated looking engine in your avatar. One of your builds?

Hiya Willie

Welcome to the collective :borg:

Technology is an amazing thing. Between here and other places, I think I can travel pretty much anywhere and have someone I could meet up with.

Besides making things better, I think we all suffer from that, what are you interested in?

Eric

Hi Eric,

Generally, if there are any precision parts involved - I'm interested.  :D

Cars, motorcycles, aircraft, firearms, machinery, shiny tools....   I'm there.  lol.

Hello John.

I do realize pictures are appreciated, but I can't think of anything I have done as being of any interest to anyone else. At least that seems to be my track record. I'm just trying to get a feel for what is the standard fare here.

And thank you for the welcome.   :mmr:

Hi Willie!

Welcome to the Collective.  :borg:

As you're finding, we're a very mixed bunch here..... Always, someone knows something, or wants to know!

Join in. Have fun. We do!  :nrocks:

Hi David!

Indeed it is a mixed bunch, and that's a good thing. I find I am getting a bit of a cultural education as well as a modding education. That is also a good thing for someone like me who has not had the opportunity to do any world travel. I will admit that sometimes I have to break out an English to English dictionary at times though.  ;-)

If your anything like me I never took many photos of anything before I joined the internet forums which was about 3-4 years ago, as who was I going to show, LOL
Also all my photos where done on film, digital has opened up a whole new world with being able to download and delete them, etc.

To probably quote someone else.... how do you know until you've tried?

Seriously - there's over two and a half thousand members. 79 have been online today alone. Everyone has different interests - and something you've done, no matter how trivial you think it is, will be of great interest to someone here...

I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in my sump project; I mean, there's no clever stuff in it, it's just an inert lump of aluminium with some holes in it.... and yet, the interest I got was overwhelming and totally unexpected.

I guess what I'm saying is: let's see some of your work!

AdeV,
Thats not a sump thats a sump.

It's true what you are saying though, I posted up a wooden box for my rotary table and got good replies. So no matter if you think it's small and insignificant you will find someone will have interest in it.

OK then. I have something that would fall into that category. ("an inert lump of aluminium with some holes in it....")

Davo J: I agree with you. The digital age has certainly opened up a whole new world when it comes to sharing images and information. My film cameras have been sitting and collecting dust for years now.   :(
But the digital camera is one of the best ideas to have come about as far as I am concerned.

There's always someone interested. If only for the entertainment!  :D

I posted my bathroom rebuild......     http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=1331.0

Not a chart topper. But, it raised a few smiles of interest.

Isn't it amazing how many people were interested in a log on refurbishing the crapper. At last count 1154 and now with that link you will get a few more.  :D :D

Cheers

David D,

Not only did you perform a miracle in that venture, you took a job that I absolutely despise (plumbing / carpentry) and indeed made it entertaining!

Note that "despise" in my case translates to: "I'm no good at it."   :D :D

Thanks,Willy.
I don't consider myself good at much. But most of my bodging comes out ok......  :D

After more than 2 years, there's still no leaks, and all is still fixed securely. More than that, Mrs Drillin is still happy with it......
