Decided to move from bt to another ISP....on cost really....
So hopefully it will all go smoothly.....might have to change my email addy too, not a bad thing as it gives the spam a rest....
Should save me around £16/ month....£192 for the year...bit of a saving? I'd say yes....

I admit I was skeptical about their service so decided to call them...
I will receive exactly the same service as I got from BT, 8Mb connection speed, no limit on downloads and free weekend calls from Friday until Sunday midnight...
as for being part of BT, I dont think so...Plusnet was set up by some guy in Sheffield who decided there was a market for another service provider, according to my Son -in -law who is at Sheff Uni....

I moved to Sky broadband a year and a bit ago, and so far it's been great. I went with them becuase their website and contract didn't have any 'fair useage policy' or download limits as far as I could see. I figured they'd most likely have a FUP under a different name, but i've yet to notice any throttling despite streaming alot of video and downloading alot of large files.
The whole ordeal of finding a broadband provider was tedious though. I nearly went with Virgin broadband, which claims on their website and in adverts that it's UNLIMITED, but just as I was one button away from switching over I got a chance to read their fine print (and fine is the operative word) where it turns out it wasn't unlimited at all, with a very small download limit. I guess unlimited is one of those marketing words that can mean anything. I can't wait till good honest richard branston buys the NHS.
It was a similar story with other ISPs though, that require you to give over a large amount of details before they'll tell you what you're actually signing up for. Another common trick is for ISPs to advertise the most wonderous of packages, but by the time you've halfway filled out their forms they say 'oh sorry that package isn't available in your area, but this similar** one is!'. Which is a tactic called a 'Bait and Switch' and as far as I know it's supposed to be illegal, but like our government cares.
Phone companies seem to be getting away with alot of shady stuff at the moment. It's even worse when you get into cellphone contracts. I'd say over half the people I know who're on cellphone contracts have managed to get bills of over £100 for doing things they weren't even aware of (and that's just the people willing to admit it), such as downloading a bunch of free apps while connected to their household wifi, but the phone defaulting to using the cellphone network to specifically download apps (which costs alot of money that you won't find out about till the bill arrives).
I could moan for days, but yeah Sky seemed to be the best out of a bunch of terrible deals when I signed up for it. But that might have changed by now, and there'll be different ISPs in your area that might be better, so it's worth shopping about.

And after all the aggro I had from TalkTalk [ hawk, spit, ptoing ] I wouldn't give a toss if it were part of the Waffen SS.
It worked on Day 1 and still does. No grief at all.

I'm with Plusnet.
Extra £5 a month, covers all calls to sensible numbers, anytime.
Extra £1 a month gives caller recognition thing. (Don't recognize the number. Don't pick up).

well i have just got the net in as with talktalk unlimeted free week end and evining phone all for £7.50 a munth i need to get a wifi dongel for the pc up till gnaw its bin ok befor this i had one of phone dongels and i was paying £10 a munth for 1 gig of dater

I apologise if this is a hijack but I pay just over £35 per month to BT. That gives me 24 X7 phone calls up to an hour( yes, I'm married) and my internet( a little limited, like me). Now with my abacus( cos I'm an old fart) that makes it costs me just over a quid a day. Not cheap but in terms of my mobile costs it seems - well, reasonable.
Am I also due for a re-think? Answers on a £5 note, would help.

Sounds like a good deal there.
I'm on virgin and I have to say I've not noticed any throttling and I download a lot. Still regularly see 3Meg dl speeds. And that's with 4 devices connected.

I use Ovivo, for mobile. A one off payment of £15, for the sim card. That's it! :thumbup:

Must get round to migrating again now I am out of contract/minimum term, may be an easier option for me since in the same group. Have heard MAC's given almost on the spot when intending to migrate to PlusNet, whereas all other ISP's they make it extremely difficult to leave.
Knocks me £42 p/m with BT and calls never been so high. Plusnet £7.5 p/m cheaper for whats the same service for same product with benefit of better customer service.
Lost all will 16 months back with BT, got a problem no chance of sorting. Faults cleared or not are written off sorted afer two weeks.
Cant beat an independent ISP and independent line and phone provider.

Well the switch over has gone smoothly.....better than anticipated really if im honest
Just need to sort some email address out and can boot BT bye bye .... :coffee:

John, although my ISP is BT I use 123-reg.co.uk as my email so that I retain my email address were I to change ISP's. It's worked well for the last few years

I think both the phone, and the broadband were down for an hour each, during my swap. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known! :scratch:
Email is Google. No change needed there......
