Hi there, John,
Thank you for these videos.
They show me how to do things I've never done and remind me of how to do things I have done but not often or not recently. :smart: :smart: :smart:
I've got the new roof on my workshop now but I still can't do much in there yet until I've cleaned up and tidied after the flood from the leaky roof - watching your videos showing you actually getting on and doing things makes up for that too. :D :D :D
I have a question: you often mention the benefit of the raising block on your mill - is there a thread and/or video showing how you made and fitted it?
-
Nice video's John, it's amazing how many people don't use steadies.
Cheers David

i ant got one two use

Maybe someone can help me here.
I find I can no longer run the videos. The process starts, but stops after 1 second. This is happening with any site, so it is clearly related to my machine.
I am using the latest incarnation of Firefox on my XP machine.
I suspect this has happened since I updated from the last version, but can't be sure about that.
I can run the videos if I install Chrome, but I would rather stick with Firefox.
HELP
Dave.

I'm not sure the colour codes are 'Standard' but they are fairly widespread. Magenta seems to be leaded mild steel.

Hello,John.
Don't get me wrong,please.
I would really like to watch your videos and learn from you.
Unfortunately for me,being not a native speaker, your English is more or less a mystery.
Don't want to be impolite in any way,but would you mind to speak a little more standard English?
Cheers,Ralph

People in the N/E England don't have accents, it's people that don't live in the N/E that have them.

I like new accents. I like learning them if I don't know one already. I like the way they sound, And many times you can't say and mean the same thing in a different one.
Everybody on the planet has an accent.

Try clearing your cache Dave. Click History - clear recent history... then make sure cache is ticked, plus any others you want to clear away (I keep cookies, active logins and site preferences). If that doesn't work try clearing cookies too.

Everybody has an accent and way of communicating. I like John's videos and first time I was a sec unsure what language that was, but after few videos I got used to it.
I'm used to accents and my commad of English (and Finnish too) is limited, but I still don't care that much of the delivery when all important information is here.
I did study some German long time ago and I generally can read he menu and make some simple tools work, but when I went to Austria I was a bit lost.
Same thing with Mexcian/Spain Spannish, I know just eneough to make ass of myself. But I get fed.
Keep those videos coming.

I have watched a few of DB's videos and can understand most of what He says. What I don't understand is "twastard." Is this His name for His tools, neighbors, or wife? :) Seems to be a common word so cannot be cussing! I hope He does His machining to relieve stress!
-
It was my wife who thought up the name
She said I am worse than a "Bastard" but not quite a "Twat"
Hence the name "Twastard"

Actually, you're all wrong.
It isn't an accent, it's a dialect.
An accent is when people from different parts say the same standard English but you can tell they are from different parts of the country.
A dialect is when people have local words and expressions that aren't use (generally) elsewhere.

I am most fortunate to have married a wonderful East Anglia Lass from Isleham, Cambs. She had an uncle and a brother-in-law that were Yorkshire men. I enjoyed many a pint or Gill of malt with both, and became very accustom to their accent. It amazed me how well I understood them when we had a snoot full! I have no problem understanding John... All the best, Mate!

Geordie, Welsh, and Gaelic the true British accents all others are born from European and Londoners who had to use French & German to make up their dielect

Oh really?
Window in French - Fenetre
Window in Welsh - Fenestr
-
They have windows in Wales ??????????????
Seriously though windows in the modern sense (fenestration) probably only got to Wales (and much of Great Britain) in Roman times, with a second wave when the Normans built castles everywhere, and it's probably from that Norman connection that the Fenestr of Welsh originated.

Oh really?
Window in French - Fenetre
Window in Welsh - Fenestr
From what I remember from my school days in Wales, Fenestr ( window, latin fenstra) llyfir (book leber) and arian (silver or money latin argentum) were words that came from the Romans. Llong from the Viking long boats is a ship.
These were taught in Welsh lessons, I have subsequently found that Arian is from Proto-Indo-European *h₂erg- (“to shine”) and that unlike what we were taught in school,Perhaps borrowed from French, the Welsh word for window is ffenestr.
So, these are bits of fairly useless partially accurate information that I remember from those endless obligatory Welsh lessons in the 1960's! Google is your friend!
