I am slooooowly getting sucked into wanting some form of motorised/digital bits on my mill. :bugeye:
There are numerous mentions of CNC in various threads like the 3d printers/CNC conversions/the mandrel winder project etc.
Is it time to have a dedicated CNC area for the more general questions (as in I have lots!!)?
I know there are dedicated CNC forums buy I really like it on here!

I agree with Will, the guys here have far more patience with beginner and expert alike.
-
I think that might be a good idea. Anybody else have thoughts about it?

Insert one "aye" for me. CNC Zone is hardly what I'd call friendly.

I'm always interested in watching things happen so a yup from me. What about a 3D printer forum? Seems to be a few on here that use them

Pete,
I think a forum for CNC should be anything computer controlled. So printers, mills & lasers. I am trying not to create to many forums, take a look at cnczone to see what I mean. While there is a lot of great info there, at times it can be hard to navigate.

Count me in too please. Novice, wannabe, easy steps stuff for a start?

I can see the logic of a separate sub-forum but as Eric says not a proliferation of them.
However when I enter the forum, my first 'click' is on 'show unread posts since last visit', so it matters not a jot what sub-forum a posting is in as I monitor all new posts and read those that either I'm following or that catch my interest. Then I click 'mark all posts read' so that next time I visit, just the new ones pop up. ....... works for me :med:

Andrew,
...so that next time I visit, just the new ones pop up...
I find this happens every time I visit and click on 'show new posts since last visit' even if I didn't look at any of the previous posts offered.
If there are, say, five posts in display, and I leave the site, if no one has posted since my departure I will get a blank space.

A CNC section would be great! I agree with Eric about keeping the number of forums (? boards?) manageable, CNCzone is an absolute nightmare to navigate - doesn't help it's really busy as well, so even a search ends up returning loads of irrelevant stuff. However, as CNC becomes a sensible option - either retro-fit, 2nd hand bigger industrial gear, or whatever - there's definitely going to be more cries for help, etc.

Dave,
The solution to that is to click the "All unread topics" button, which appears at the bottom of the list (or empty list). The reason it happens is it's basically showing you new posts that you haven't been made aware of, rather than new posts you haven't read... a subtle difference for sure.

Great responses. Looks like we will get one !!
Regards reading new posts:
Yes I read all unread posts every time I log in. However the problem is the day after when I want to revist a particular post!
The search engine on Simple MAchines is not the best! and as for finding something after a few weeks then ....
keeping structure to our "directory structure" is the way to go!
The CNC virus is spreading - I have just been researchng stepper motors!

We've done a few 'automated fixtures' which are basically simple cnc machines that do one thing. So I agree with the above...

I see your point Eric. Must have been the amount of jungle juice that made me put that in.

Yup, I too click on, "Show unread posts since last visit". Read those of interest then use, "Mark all messages as read" before leaving. Works for me. :nrocks: :mmr:
