Password Woes
« on: June 14, 2014, 10:56:55 PM »

No not a situation of forgotten password or miss-typed but every time I have signed in of late it keeps telling me its wrong so I have changed it once again. I hope this time it works every time thereafter.

Can anyone of the Mod's shed some light or even other members.

Ray

It's impossible to say without more information than that.

What browser, what operating system, what specific steps are used to sign in, does it always happen, sometimes happen, happen under specific conditions, do you run anti-spam software, anti-scripting software, run flash blocking software, etc.

No one else is reporting this, so it's a pretty sure bet it is related to your system or procedure. If you could spell out what those are, maybe there is a clue there.

I get that now and again...

Usually its because I've caught two keys or I've got caps lock switched on.

One that always gets me is an odd time a key doesn't register and its always when I'm typing the password !

Steps no way two left feet and I'd sure be hitting every key LOL No I use my fingers.......I type my user name I type my PW if it fails I retype the PW some times 3 times.
No specific conditions
It has happened from time to time since I signed up more recently almost every time I try sign in.
That is until today.

GingerNut, nothing you've said so far provides a key to the problem. You've said in general terms that you use normal software and a normal procedure.

Specifics are a pain to write up, but necessary if someone else is to help. Somethng is different, you have to find that.

Send me a message with the exact time it happens again. I will check the logs.

An option to try to see if it is with your computer or us... Next time you get a password failed, don't type it in the browser next time. Open notepad, type it out so you can see that it is correct, then copy and paste it in.

Some things to try Ginger Nut:

When password fails, hit Ctrl R to refresh the page and try it again -- does that work?

If not, look for the MadModder cookie and delete that.

Restart browser, and try to log in again.

Also you might try the above plus clearing your internet cache.

A friend of mine who is seriously into on-line stuff recommended lastpass to me.  It creates an on-line encrypted vault of your site & password connections and (with appropriate setting) auto-logs you in to sites.  There are a myriad of settings you can customize.  The free version works quite well with Windows and (I do not remember which) other OS's.  Another friend who works in the military cyber security arena tells me that it takes significant crypto power to crack their vault system -- meaning that amateurs are unlikely to break into it.  It seems (after two weeks of using it) to be fairly convenient and flexible.

If you Google lastpass you should find it.

So I changed some stuff. You (and all members) may have to login again or be prompted for a password again.

Have tried refresh in the past still no good

If not, look for the MadModder cookie and delete that. This applies to below also have closed browser which clears cookies etc

Restart browser, and try to log in again. Have tried this and as above

Also you might try the above plus clearing your internet cache. Uisng Firefox as stated above settings clear cache on close

Saying the above this morning sign in was not a problem.
