SwarfnStuff:
Looking at John's Mystery tool it reminds me of the jigger my parents had for stretching the lining of a shoe, specially if mum's bunions were giving trouble. There were buttons that could be inserted to give extra room in some spot or other. This link should take you to a picture of what I am thinking about. http://www.footfitter.com/c/shoe-stretchers.html As you will see by selecting the first item then choosing different views - the right most view gives you a look at the business end. The stretch / spreading force is applied by the winding back of the pointy end. :med: See, I might not remember what was said 10 minutes ago but this is retrieved from the memory banks of some 70 years past.
