Looking for advice on painting / staining aluminum wheels
Bangkok Mick:
Having found some aluminum wheel rims I am looking to make them look more authentic like steel rims as I cannot find steel of this diameter.
Can anyone suggest a good way to stain, darken or paint them so they do not look so much like aluminum.
Cheers Mick
Arbalist:
Probably the most durable would be to have them anodised. Colour of your choice but black would look nice?

Mick.
I'm thinking chemical gun blue, might be worth a try.......

Mick -- If you have somebody in your area that makes aluminum aircraft parts, they will almost certainly have a set-up to apply "chromate" finish to aluminum. This is be baby puke green color, relatively thick (.010 inch or so) coating that aircraft manufacturers depend on to slow down corrosion and act as a foundation for paint. Any good real enamel paint will stick quite nicely to a chromate undercoat.
Jonny:
That's for steels David, it will eat aluminiums.
Not very good any way.
