Graphic vid of why we need to take care when working on any machine. This guy was lucky he wasn't killed outright.
I thought the chuck key left on the headstock was going to be the accident.

When I seen the long sleeves I cringed every time he got close and sure enough. I one witnessed a person getting his tee shirt ripped off he was standing close and all of a sudden all he had was the ring around his neck the rest was ripped right off him in the blink of an eye. Loose clothing around a machine shop is just a no no along with jewelry and gloves.

I have viewed this video before.  There are many problems beside
long sleeves.  Several years ago I saw a group of pictures of a poor
soul that had been drawn into a large lathe by the chuck.  It was said
it was because of loose clothing.  The pictures showed only what was
left of the man's torso.

My grandad has a story about the company photographer, who he was friendly with, coming in to the office looking pretty faint one day. Supposedly the poor bugger had been tasked with taking photos of a recent accident where some kid with long hair (as was fashionable at the time) got his head removed by a wheel lathe.

I see gloves on a drill press quite alot on youtube videos. There was even one electronics engineer who went out of his way to make a point about how you MUST wear gloves on a drill press. Some people just don't think.

         Well I was expecting something, but not that. He is very lucky to still be alive, that is a very powerful lathe. It would make an excellent safety training video for apprentice machinists.

Accidents happen in that split second that you get too comfortable with what you're doing.  And then of course there are the people that reinforce Darwin's theory.

I have to say, watching that skinny guy do up the chuck in a less than coordinated way, something was bound to happen.

Yuup  35 years ago I was turning a crank shaft on a lathe,  it looked liked like the steady rest on the end of the bearing was marking it up so i put my finger on the bearing to rub the oil off and the counter weight came around and sliced of the tip (between the steady rest and counter weight).
Rapped a oily rag around it and finished turn the bearing.  Then went to the doctor.

Ouch. Good man for carrying on though. I always keep a bottle of superglue close by for emergency body repairs.

I agree with you on that one,  superglue,  yes  instant repair for those cuts that just won't stop..

I just put a piece of cigarette paper on it, it dries and stops the bleeding.
