I will receive exactly the same service as I got from BT, 8Mb connection speed, no limit on downloads and free weekend calls from Friday until Sunday midnight... as for being part of BT, I dont think so...Plusnet was set up by some guy in Sheffield who decided there was a market for another service provider, according to my Son -in -law who is at Sheff Uni.... |

I moved to Sky broadband a year and a bit ago, and so far it's been great. I went with them becuase their website and contract didn't have any 'fair useage policy' or download limits as far as I could see. I figured they'd most likely have a FUP under a different name, but i've yet to notice any throttling despite streaming alot of video and downloading alot of large files. The whole ordeal of finding a broadband provider was tedious though. I nearly went with Virgin broadband, which claims on their website and in adverts that it's UNLIMITED, but just as I was one button away from switching over I got a chance to read their fine print (and fine is the operative word) where it turns out it wasn't unlimited at all, with a very small download limit. I guess unlimited is one of those marketing words that can mean anything. I can't wait till good honest richard branston buys the NHS. It was a similar story with other ISPs though, that require you to give over a large amount of details before they'll tell you what you're actually signing up for. Another common trick is for ISPs to advertise the most wonderous of packages, but by the time you've halfway filled out their forms they say 'oh sorry that package isn't available in your area, but this similar** one is!'. Which is a tactic called a 'Bait and Switch' and as far as I know it's supposed to be illegal, but like our government cares. Phone companies seem to be getting away with alot of shady stuff at the moment. It's even worse when you get into cellphone contracts. I'd say over half the people I know who're on cellphone contracts have managed to get bills of over £100 for doing things they weren't even aware of (and that's just the people willing to admit it), such as downloading a bunch of free apps while connected to their household wifi, but the phone defaulting to using the cellphone network to specifically download apps (which costs alot of money that you won't find out about till the bill arrives). I could moan for days, but yeah Sky seemed to be the best out of a bunch of terrible deals when I signed up for it. But that might have changed by now, and there'll be different ISPs in your area that might be better, so it's worth shopping about. |
