Those forms can be quite easily achieved on a lathe, you will however need a 'radius turner' to make things easy.
Have a look at 'Divided he ads' (Ralph) posts.

is this a devise that can be purchased or do you have to build one to fit your own lathe? sorry for the dumb questions.
