Hi Guys
For some time I have been thinking about making a Rule Stand for the marking out table, I didn't feel like starting a big project having just replaced the windows in each end of the workshop, so this little project suited me nicely. The body of the stand can be made in various ways, welded sections, fabricating using sections screwed together, etc. I haven't done any casting for a few months, and if you don't do any for a while it is very easy to make mistakes, I needed the practice. I decided on an aluminium casting. I spent a couple of evenings doodling in front of the TV, I wanted to produce something modern looking, and finally settled on a design. Now to make the pattern, I have lots of timber, but never seem to have the size I want so ended up gluing three bits of beech together. Made the split pattern, two coats of french polish, and off to the moulding bench, sand perfect, mould great, BUT! couldn't remove it from the mould. Eventually it did come out making a much bigger hole than the pattern, back to the drawing board. There was not enough taper on the inside edges, so back to the mill.
