Meldonmech:
Hi
Some great castings there, are you thinking of giving a whirl?

                                                                                            Cheers David

Fascinating shapes it produces, if a little hard on the ants :bugeye:

I would imagine the soil / sand must be very dry for the aluminium to flow successfully to the far extremities as it has

I think some people have too much spare time on their hands.  Is this art?

He should ship this nonsense to some artsy-fartsy gallery in SOHO/NYC.  He'll have no trouble unloading this crap on the pretentious, "designer"-fops that populate these joints.  He'll make a fortune.

He should have more respect for life...any life, even ants.  At least what the ants do, serves a purpose.

I wouldn't have a lot of sympathy for imported fire ants. They're a scourge down south, invasive, destructive. If you've ever seen them attack kids as a swarm, or animals, or had refrigerators and electrical appliances destroyed by them, you'd probably find them more dispensible.

I don't think of castings like those as art, craft maybe,  but really not a product of artistic effort and decision. This type of ant nest casting used to be done with lead and I remember reading about it as a kid -- probably in a Reader's digest. Dates back to at least 50 years ago.

If we could just train ants now to make the shapes we want, sorted
