Finding the edge...
« on: August 29, 2013, 05:42:13 PM »
With the new mill and dro, I'm keen to more accurately find the edge of work. This has come up before but the posts I've found are old with missing picturs or broken vid links.

What do you chaps use to find the edge of your work?   Which makes/models work well?

Appreciate your replies.

Chris

I use a standard edge finder... Like this:

This one being a starrett.

When I get back to fixing the CNC I will probably use a setup like Hoss did.

Snap, except mine came from RDG Tools (IIRC) and didn't cost as much as a Starrett.

They are available in imperial or metric sizes, I bought imperial. Since I have a DRO, I usually edge-find the work in imperial, then reset to 0,0 & switch to metric if required. If you work is mainly in metric AND you have a DRO, then you'll be easier doing it the other way around. They really are easy to use, and surprisingly accurate, so long as you're patient.
Cheers!
Ade.
