It might depend on where you live.  I have had both.   The ghia seems designed to rust.  There are lots of nooks and crannies that trap water and the bits to repair the damage are getting harder to find. (a lot like a porche 356)  Anything like fenders, headlight buckets, bumpers, chrome trim etc. were all dealer only and very expensive.  Less of an issue if you are in Arizona!   The ghia was less comfortable (at least for me).  The floor pan is wider and you sit a bit diagonal.  I usually got out with a back ache.
