Hello from sunny Liverpool
« on: July 06, 2013, 09:40:25 AM »
Hi folks, I'm John. I tinker with old VWs and like to make stuff. (hence the username)

I've had a Boford CSB lathe now for a couple of years and apart from turning the odd spacer I've not really used it much. This is mainly because I don't know how to use it properly, hopefully that can change with a little guidance. :coffee:

Here's my lathe, it's had a forward/reverse switch fitted since this pic....

I also have plenty of other tools, my newest acquisition is a 30" 3 in 1 folder (formit) from Chester MT,

Tools: Boxford CSB lathe, Chester 20v mill, Portamig 185. Lots of ideas, No motivation.

Hi John.
Make sure you bolt that former down to something really solid, I have the 24"version and I have to swing on both handles to bend a 24" length of 22guage steel.  I to had a Boxford exactly like yours, but sold it some time ago and bought a Chester DB10GVS.   I am sure you will learn a lot from the forum and have a good laugh as well.

Cheers Dek. :med:

  Hi John

welcome to the forum

It looks like the North West has  a great day – summer at last

On a day like today you would get a great view from the roof of St John's beacon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_City_Tower
I had to go up there a few times to maintain a microwave link that was aimed at
a receiver on the Winter Hill mast
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_Hill_transmitting_station

I guess its 30 years since I last used a Boxford lath like yours
with a little practice you will achieve a lot

   John

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you will enjoy it, if you want any help just ask. Nice lathe you have there, I last used a Boxford when I was at school a few years ago.
                                                                          Cheers David

Hi John,
Welcome to the forum, the Boxford is a capable lathe, I used one for five years when at school. It is an easy machine to use, and should satisfy all the requirements for your restorations.

                                                                                    Cheers  David
