Oh blue alone is fine. The real problem comes with blue and white.   :)

Yes it's in all the scientific literature. Get yourself a blue and white mill and before you know it, accident rate skyrockets, resale value plummets, neighbors become cranky, dogs bark, and your taxes increase.

The only solution is in fact to paint it green and leave it that way for at least 3 years, by which time all the negative vibes will have drained out of it.

Rob,

are you going to do a full rebuild on the Clarkson, I would be very interested by some of the dimensions. My Clarkson had been "fixed", the shaft sleeved oversize and both the left hand threads shortened or removed. The thing that I don't know is whether there is an inner sleeve between the bearings, it should have a spring for the pre-load, mine doesn't.

Hi Matthew

Yes I will be stripping the TCG when I have the time , more than likely later on in the year , so when I do I will take measurements and photos of any parts you require

Hi Matthew,

There's nowt between the bearings on the spindle.

I made a little preload gadget incorporating a couple of pins to fit holes I drilled in the preload nut, similar to the one on the wheel end to drive the flange.

Thanks Chris,

How does your pre-load gadget work?

I wondered because my Clarkson had been "got at" so I couldn't be sure what it should have. I put it back together with a slight "nip"so it should be all right.

Hi Matthew,

That's all I used, just a nip hence the knurling, just to get a grip, no other tooling used (18" Stillsons etc he-he).

Thing was I used non precision sealed bearings, as I didn't know any better then, still works fine up to 5000 rpm.

Later, I may get some better bearings and part fill the housing with spindle oil, that's if I can get precision bearings with at least one side rubber sealed...

Here's a pic of a cutter I did the other night

Feel free Rob,

Any questions about how I did certain things, please ask.

Now I've got the photo size sorted I can post more if there's an interest, it is a bit of an obscure side to the hobby, and not everyone's cup of tea...

Cheers Chris  , will do

I am planning on making all of the tooling as it seams to go for daft prices on Ebay , more fun making ones own  :med:
