Morse taper shanks, which are the best
« on: July 28, 2013, 06:52:12 AM »
Hi Guys,
Glancing at two of my drill chucks in the workshop, both no2 morse taper, I noticed one had a wasted section. I had seen shanks with with this wasting before, but today began to wonder which is the best for general use?

                                                   Cheers David

Wasted MT's are normally designed for heavy duty drilling and with a knock out tang.
the reason for the wasting is to reduce the surface area of the male/female and increase the
pressure.
It's very rare to find wasted type below #3MT
Most hobby machines are standard #2 MT other than the #3 MT in a mini lathe spindle.
and mills with the R8
