I acquired a mini lathe of the Clarke variety recently.....paid good money for it too... :scratch:

It needed a new motor for starters...Then some parts from the gear train were missing....I dont have the the change gears for screw cutting unfortunately....

I've bought a new motor and belt ( yup the belt was missing too... :doh:) and changed out the FC250J speed controller for one of the KB series and it is now in running order....The rest of the machine is fine and has had little use...I know the previous owner was a builder not a machinist so he didnt make much on it...

So what do I do with it? :coffee:
 I already have a Chester 9*20 and a Sieg mini lathe (brushless motor variety...which is great!! :dremel: ) and dont really need another lathe...

I'm tempted to change the bearings for tapers and add a qctp.... :dremel:

Should I sell it, keep it or something else? :D

I thought you'd gone a bit quiet!  Guess you don't need these two motors, I keep tripping over?   :scratch:
Can the scrap man have 'em?

I'd change the bearings, and add a qctp.  :thumbup:

I've got a spare set of change wheels.

It does rather duplicate your brushless mini-lathe, John, and the brushless ones are a great improvement.

I believe the Clarke badge is put on machines which are Siegs under the paint, so you could always use the change gears from the brushless one.

I'd sell it and put the money towards something you haven't got. If the buyer gripes about the lack of change gears, Arc Euro sell them:

David,

I did enjoy our conversation over the phone..gave me food for thought! To the point that I decided to try and salvage the machine......
Now I'm tripping over it!

PM sent re the change wheels....

What you say makes sense re the Sieg brushless version...I could buy something else...but what? I already have three lathes including this one and four milling machines ( one of which is a horizontal miller.....) hence the quandry

Jeff,

I have in my machinery arsenal:
 a Chester 9*20
 two mini lathes
 an Eagle 30 milling machine
 two mini mills
 a horizontal milling machine.....

and a shaper...Yay!!!!... :D

Who needs more machines? :dremel: :)

You can't have too many toys !!!!You are still short of:

Band saw
CNC lathe
CNC Mill
Horizontal grinder
Cylindrical grinder
Die sinker EDM - ( useful for removing broken taps)
Wire EDM (useful for internal splines etc)

Turned a profit too...... :D :D

Got a bit more space in the shop now....So what do I buy to replace it and utilise the space going spare....... :coffee:
