Evening Lads  :wave:

Well no were near as much shop time this weekend as I would have liked , but made a start on the DTI holder this evening .

CAD drawing done , well nearly still a couple of parts to draw ,but enough done to make a start .


Milled a couple of bits of steel up and machined the ways for the rods to run in .




Piss poor this no shop time lark  :(

Fine adjustment , I have not drawn the screw ,still undecided on the pitch . also two springs missing from the drawing   :palm:

 :lol: :lol: nope John  :palm:  Just getting a few wee jobs out of the way before I start back on with  the 626 .

Well wile sitting waiting for the shop to warm up -1 when I fired the heaters up at 8 am ,I finished off the modelling of the DTI holder to pass the time .




Well I suppose I better move my arse and get in the shop  :dremel:

Looking good - should be a very useful tool! I think the fine-adjustment screw will make it a lot easier to use than just a friction lock,

I have a question or three about the CAD rendering...

What CAD software are you using, and... how do you do those knurls in it? I have a few projects that are close to the render stage, but have been scratching my head over knurled knobs and grippy knurled levers... Easy to do, hard to draw! Shouldn't it be straight knurls for adjustments, diamond for grip though? ;)

  Hi Rob , hope you managed to dig your way into the shop today, the drawings are so real, its unreal   :clap: lol, ......... it even looks like them bits are nickel plated if you look close ?  :)

Hi Dave , piece of piss to model a knurl , its just a swept cut along a helix ,radial pattern that ,then mirror the pattern , as to should it be a diamond  knurl for adjustment , yes all my mikes are diamond knurled most engineering equipment is , if it was a scientific or Horological piece then it would be straight .


Hand a bit shop time over the weekend  :ddb:

A shot of the arbour being heat treated , that the part too the left , the other is a reamer .



Nearly all the mill work done , just need to make the part that holds the DTI .

A wee bit progress this afternoon , finished milling up the part that holds the DTI , made two top  guide rods from SS and two smaller ones for the DTI fine adjust from sliver steel (hardened)  , Press fitted  the part together, still need to make three knobs.

Even with a high tech digital edge finder that is tied into the  cnc control system on my mill, I find that I use my  DTI holder quite regularly.  Congratulations on this work, hope you use it as much as I use mine.  :)

Well that another tool knocked off the list ,job done  :dremel:





couple of shots with DTI




I machined the hole that allows for the clamping action to match standard DTI bars .


This gives the tool a bit more verifiability .



Really enjoyed prating about with this wee project  :)
