Cor, that brings back memories.... a book I had as a child in the late 1970s predicted the return of steam powered railways, albeit in a very different form to the old 1930s technology... And, by the power of the internet, you too can now download the Usborne Book of the Future - published IIRC in 1979 - from here: http://life.enhasa.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/The%20Usborne%20Book%20of%20the%20Future.pdf Be warned - it's a big download, and the steam train commands all of one panel split over two pages (pp74-75), and the key technologies are a "fluid-bed" furnace, a steam turbine & a condenser... The book is fascinating now for two things: The sheer amount of stuff it got wrong.... and the amount of stuff it got right (even if you need to squint a bit to see it). |

It's a non profit, the last button is to donate. :bugeye: --- End quote --- The engine was actually made for passenger service. With 84" drivers it would not be very efficient as a freight locomotive. The does seem to be another problem though. The tender indicates that it was oil fired instead of coal fired. A list of the specs. can be found here: http://www.csrail.org/index.php/the-train/tech-specs Joe |
