Henning, I used hinges on my gear cover as shown here: The letters refer to some accompanying text on my website, but I sawed up a cheap door hinge and attached the results at E and E, with the other parts attached to the lathe. The hinges are lift-off, and the pin in the lower one is longer than in the upper one, to help me to replace the cover if I have removed it completely. A toggle clip (like the ones on some toolboxes) at F fastens on to a lug on top of the headstock, to hold the cover closed. :D It seems I can embed pictures direct from my website without the bother of PhotoBucket. :D I didn't know that until I tried it.
