Mini Lathe Motor. Again....... |

Just a little addendum....... I've been ploughing........ Roughing a lot of metal from a couple of flywheel castings. Started at 5" diameter, with a 1" wide rim, alloy castings....... Around 200rpm. The speed control, set around 1/3 of it's travel. Which is not the best position for motor cooling...... Not a ha'p'orth of bother! Just ploughed on. Half a mill per pass, o/d. 30thou per pass, facing. Motor felt slightly aired. Same with the extractor fan outlet. No alarming smells from the windings. The result..... I reckon we've cracked it! :ddb: :ddb: Thanks once again Lads, for all your help and encouragement. I couldn't have done it, without you all out there.  David D |

David, You may be interested to learn that a pal of mine in mainland Europe has just ordered a new motor for his Amadeal-badged Real Bull mini-lathe direct from RB in China. On the other hand, you may be displeased to learn that, with shopping, it is costing him the princely sum of $53 (£33) :bugeye: Of course, he may have customs duty to pay when it arrives. Andy |

He sure will inc a £8 handling charge , import duty and VAT just had one that was just over the threshold just about doubled the price , came in from the states I think it was 33 dollars but the revenue dept included the postage in the amount and charged me on the whole lot :bang: Stuart |

Sometimes, you can be very cruel, to a cautiously thrifty person like me! Incidentally. My original motor, is now in Portugal. Working well for it's happy new owner. Hmmmm..... Stuart. I too have had to pay multiple taxes, + £8, on everything, including the £45 postage from Australia. Releasing the Huxtable engine cost me an extra £91! :bugeye: David D |

Sorry, David! Still, if one had arrived from China in bits, like your last (but one) did, things might have got awkward. The one I mentioned is going elsewhere in Europe. Similar imposts to those which Stuart mentioned may apply at its destination, of course. Into the UK, it would be £33-ish + 20% VAT (£6.60) + £8 handling = £33 + £6.60 + £8 = £48 (approx). I think the threshold for import duty is £135. Did your original motor go to Jose M? Andy |
