Steam Engine Cylinder Casting
doubleboost:
Hi
Lads
I made use of the sand cores i made last week and cast my cylinder
This picture shows the sand core in the mould
The small round bit is where the metal is poured in (sprue) the rectangulsr bit is the riser
This feeds the casting as it cools
This shows where the riser has been cut off (nice clean solid metal)
This is always a welcome sight
Very happy with it
I cast this yesterday with poor results
Nasty void in the riser (scrap casting)
At least you can always cut it up and re melt it
I could not resist machining at least one face
Good clean metal
