Hi all,
I just pulled the taper roller spindle bearings out of my lathe's headstock (they were well worn), number on them is 32007X with H8 marked on the outer ring and p6 marked on the inner ring. I believe that the H8 and p6 designations refer to the press fits in the housing and on the spindle.
Bearing dimensions are 62mm OD x 35mm ID x 18mm thick.

Checking the Timken web site for taper roller bearings it seems that standard bearings are either precision class K or N with better precision of C class and then B class. ISO designations are P0 or P6 for standard bearings and P5/P4 for better precision.

I want to get two bearings with class C (Timken designation) or class P5 (ISO designation) - provided they are not too costly, otherwise I'll have to settle for class N (class P6). I'd also be interested in the price of class B (class P4) bearings.

Can someone tell me where I can get them? I am in Australia so getting them here is preferable but so far I have drawn a blank.

I have no preference for make as long as they are a good quality from a well known maker.

Thanks,
Dave.
Cheers,
Dave (Yes, another one. I'm sure we're being cloned somewhere)

This is a UK source I have used.

They do not say the precise spec. of the ball-races. In the past I've found them to be very helpful, so you could enquire.
If you wander about the site, they do ship overseas.. Oz is overseas, isn't it ???

Last resort if you get really stuck ??

ISO designations are P0 or P6 for standard bearings and P5/P4 for better precision

P0 is lowest precision(e.g. standard type - washing machines etc.)

P6 is a high precision bearing = ABEC6  (higher the number the better the precision)

Have you tried the phone book?  Most towns with any concentration of industry will have a bearing distributor.  May not be cheapest, but you'll get to speak to someone who has a good knowledge of bearings and can give you a heads up on price.

Apologies if you are a long way from a larger town...

i searched ebay USA, UK, AND AU before replying.
i found 3 results on ebay.com.au, 25 results on ebay.com, and 6 results on ebay.co.uk
i think that equates to just a little more effort than you put in
apart from your oh so funny sarcastic remark and attempt to belittle

Hi and welcome to MaModder

Since your first post to this forum simply consisted of

ebay...........
I can see how Bluechip made the conclusion about your reply.

Since you did some research before replying you should have put a couple of links to the sites that you found on ebay. That would have been helpful and not led to the comment from Bluechip. I myself had read the post before Bluechip made the comment and thought that you had a lot of nerve making a first post like that. Usually a post like that is a tipoff that it is a spammer and they have a very short half life on MadModder.

It would be appreciated if you would go to http://madmodder.net/index.php?board=3.0 and make a post in the introductions Forum and tell us a bit about yourself.

Cheers

Hi Bluechip,
Thanks for the link to Simply Bearings, they stock four equivalent taper roller bearings so I've sent them a query about the most expensive one (GBP15.22) asking what precision class it is.

Thanks also to everybody else that replied, it's good to belong to a group of people who take the time to put fingers to keyboard.

Yep, Oz is definitely overseas  pity about all the rain you guys are getting in the UK - but then that's traditional, isn't it?

Pretty much a general bearing off the shelf at any motor factors!
However the ebay listing will be a lower end jobby. I have the Q/F in the mill far better than standard chinese but still not up to the better standards on decent original fitments.

What it boils down to is £15 for basic, £27ish for Q/F and circa £130+ for precision.
If chinese lathe the basic more than good enough.
