Why can I not see some folks' embedded photos?

Hi there, all,

I'm a newbie to this site and I've been browsing other people's posts to learn my way around.  I'm very impressed with what I've read so far but I'm feeling a bit frustrated by my inability to see some folk's embedded photos.

Some of them show fine but in other posts I see lines of text that look like captions for pictures but I can't see the pictures.  I'm using Firefox and I've enabled Java.

Some other posters include a link to a .jpg; I can't open those conveniently - I have to download the .jpg and then minimise the browser and open the .jpg using MicroSoft Photo Editor or similar.  Then I have to return to the browser to proceed through the thread.  Not exactly a smooth process.

I thought we were a fairly computer-savvy household but this one's got me beat - maybe I'm just not holding my mouth right!?!?

I look forward to any helpful suggestions but please be gentle.

Best regards,

Pete W.

Hi Pete

Welcome to we strange folk ..

Maybe give an eg. ?? If you are going w-a-y back, we had a host server change, and I believe some pics did not survive the trip.

( Used to have all sorts of grief with Firefox ...  Slung it some 3 years ago. Back to the 'apparently rubbish' IE7,8,9, which worked fine ... )

Hi there, BC,

Thank you for your reply - here's an example:

There's a thread started by 28ten called 'My Cellar' on 18th August, 2009.

There are the following lines of text that seem to be captions for photos:

'Bike tools'

'General View of the Dirty Side'

'The Office'

and a few more.  But I can't see the photos.

Changing the subject, is Belper anywhere near where the BlueJohn comes from?

Best regards,

Pete W.

I can't see those, Peter. Right-clicking and trying "show picture" doesn't work, either. As Bluechip says, they probably didn't survive the change of server. Another reason for disappearing photos is that they have been deleted from the image host (PhotoBucket, Flickr etc) where they were stored.

Hi Pete

I can't see them either. Just the 'Red Cross'. Maybe they went AWOL during the server change as Andy said .

Belper ?? No Bleu Jaune here, it's at Castleton. Up the top end. I would think about 25 miles - ish.

Last time I went up there I was on my Honda 550-4 so about 1980 IIRC .. thunderstorm on the way back ..

drowned rat time ... :(
