Tater:
Hi - just wanted to post a brief introduction to the members.  My name is Thomas and I've been putting together my first little machine shop and building my first engine, over the past several months.  I was introduced to model engineering as a kid in the 1970's by an uncle in England, and ever since I've been fascinated with live steam engines, machine tools, and learning the skills to build projects from nothing buy plans and stock.

I live in Manhattan, the East Village to be exact. Space, as you might imagine is at a premium, so my shop is quite small and my main tools are a mini-lathe and a mini mill, both late model Seig jobs.  The rest of my kit is pretty standard, and growing at an alarming rate :-)

Thanks and I look forward to learning a lot here and sharing my catastrophes and triumphs with everyone!

Glad to have another NY'er here. Welcome aboard, and if you have shop pictures post them so we can see.

If your into Steam you need to come upstate and see the Canandaigua Pageant of Steam. Great place to see tractors, hit and miss, stationary corless and stationary engines and hoards of other stuff and parts. This is the place to be in August. Here's their site. http://www.pageantofsteam.org/

There is also Ruff and tumble that is in PA Lancaster area. Great show there as well. They have a lot of steam as well and many stationary, hit and miss and as well hoards of parts and stuff. They even have a train I believe it's a Shay. It's a great show as well. Here's their site. http://www.roughandtumble.org/

Hope you get to one of these shows here in the states. They are great shows.
