John Rudd:
Advice sought here chaps... :dremel: I have a standard 10mm dril chuck mounted on an MT3 arbour..but the problem is the taper on the chuck and the mating taper on the arbour keeps coming apart.. I've tried pressing the two together but after use the chuck sometimes fall off the arbour... I guess the two tapers may not be perfect giving rise to this, what should I do to resolve this? |
DaveH:
Hi John, The first thing - which I'm sure you have, is to check for any "marring" on either of the tapers. Some engineers blue could be used to see how well the two tapers fit. DaveH |

Hey John, Might want to have a look at this one: http://www.machinistblog.com/?s=drill+chuck+installing&submit=Search Hope that solves it. Mikey |

There's no such thing as a 'Standard' taper on a drill chuck - there are several standard tapers. |
Stilldrillin:
John. Mount your drill chuck's MT3 taper in place of your lathe chuck. You can then adjust the taper fit into the drill chuck body, using a diamond file, or whetstone. I've done it several times, to gain as much mini mill vertical clearance as possible...... It works! David D |
