Nice avatar Phil  Just a thought after our little chat... Aluminium with a steel "tyre"? loctited on? Quicker to machine? or not authentic enough? David, you looked spritely enough to me :ddb: Can you point me toward that thread we were talking about with the charity info etc on it... Can't recall which thread you said it was again! Been that busy all day I've still not sorted through my new stuff! Got to tidy my workshop up a bit to find new homes for it all  Gonna be a busy next few days! Ralph. |

I had a chat with a guy on the OLCO (Old Locomotive Committee) stand and I'm sure he showed me a picture which showed that Lion had been retyred and the tyres were bolted to the rim. Under some black paint no-one (but me and you) would know the truth! I haven't seen the Reeves castings for the wheels yet - if they don't look that good I may have to make them. I'd love to have a go at casting and could easily CNC the patterns but there are only so many hours in the day etc. etc. Nothing good on TV tonight so we're going to watch a DVD of The Titfield Thunderbolt (they used Lion in the film) - I haven't seen it for 40+ years. Phil. |
