I've got a big one!! |

No. Not bragging but I did get this from work. 23" dia scrap flywheel. This was going to be binned but being a scavenger , I couldn't let it go to waste. And yes, there are companies out there that still make/have and use flywheels! Now my question is; apart from a massive finger wheel engine or more like a ruddy great big foot wheel engine; what could I do with this beastie? I am in no rush to build something here with this as I am currently building/machining a couple of beam engines, and a wobbler plus Elmers donkey engine and his Vauxhall one. The pic is of it on my mill and as you can see, makes it look rather small. (The mill that is)! I have plenty of good bearings that will take the weight/strain from when I used to work at McLarens F1 plus a lot of high grade ali from the same place. I am not boasting, it's just where I used to be so why not mention it? Any suggestions gents? The madder the better!! I am in the very fortunate position of being allowed to have an almost endless use of scrap material and machines to use at work but that is not unlimited! Kind regards. Ron. |

Hi Ron Would make a good fly wheel for a marine engine   Or a massive wobbler :bugeye: :bugeye: :bugeye: John |
Ronkh:
And yes. It does fit on the mill but as you can see, I am limited as to what I can do with it! Kinfd regards. Ron. |
Ronkh:
Hi John, Good idea though I think I would have to have the balance absolutely perfect, otherwise I could "wobble" out of the shed with the thing. It is a bit heavy!! That's an 8 m/m cutter in the chuck by the wheel. Ron. |

First idea is to get another one like it and make a Pug Mill. What to do with a Pug Mill? Crushed nuts ?? :palm: BC |
