Recovering from cataract surgery
« on: January 26, 2012, 02:41:21 PM »
I had cataract surgery this morning. I’m home trying to keep busy, as the eye is getting uncomfortable now. I have a plastic bubble taped over it to dim/diffuse the bright light. My good wife is applying the requisite drops for me. I see double and the affected eye seems to be out of alignment.
While the surgery was less uncomfortable than I expected, the aftermath sux! I was told I’d see an immediate improvement, but immediate must mean more than the 4 ½ hours since the surgery so far. The affected eye is still dilated, and much more light sensitive than when they were both dilated for the initial exam.
I have a follow up appointment again tomorrow morning.
I am keeping busy trying to find stuff to read that is machining related as I won’t be allowed in the shop for at least a week.
Anyone been through this? Any encouraging words?

Hi Chuck
I had the "opp" about 4 years ago, and had a wonderfull black eye for a while. I do'nt remember too much about how i felt right after the event, but boy o boy what a diffrence after that first day.  As i have only ever had one eye that worked, it took a while to persuade me to have it done but i am realy glad i did and would now tell anyone with the problem-GET IT SORTED :poke:

Hope it turns out ok for you Chuck.    Cheers  Deko

Hi
Chuck
I worked with a bloke who had his done
He reckoned it was like a bad welding flash for a few days
I remember when he came back to work , he looked at a gearbox casing i had welded ,:i thought you were better than that: was his comment.
He told me the difference was like having a new face mask to look through
I hope yours works out as good as his
John

Thanks for the encouragement, folks. Looks like I'm just impatent... The dialation has subsided along with the light sensitivity. Double vision is now gone also. Other than that, the op eye is still cloudy as before the surgery. We'll see what the Dr. says tomorrow.

Hope you fully recover quickly. EVERYONE i know that has had the operation has said it was worth every bit of pain and discomfort. You should notice a big difference in very short order. Lots of trauma to the eye from the surgery. Just give it some time. Keep us posted.

Stick with it Chuck, I had both eyes done, second one six weeks after first. I suffered badly with the second one and was very sensitive to light for at least twelve months but all OK now.

You will find that it will cloud over in about six to twelve months and you will need laser eye treatment to blast a clear hole over the surface of the plastic implant..... absolutely painless.

I cannot now believe the improvement in my vision, I had worn glasses for 45 years before the op, now I only need them to read and for close work in the workshop.

You will not regret having it done.

Think I'm suffering De Ja Vu and Amnesia at the same time, I'm sure I've forgotten this before!

??????????????????????

I had both eyes done in Oct. and Nov. of 2006. To this day I have had no cloudiness. My wife had hers done in 2004 and has had no problems either.

That would set the Trial Lawyers howling on this side of the pond.

I think I was over anxious this morning. The operative eye was still cloudy when I went to the Dr. for pos-op follow up. He told me my pupil was still dialated from surgery and to be patient. The nurse gave me the same vision test I had before surgery and wow! What a difference.
It is now late afternoon on day 2 an the op. eye is clearing. And, now I can see to read the forum with that eye without my glasses! Joy!  Joy!
Now my good eye is my bad eye. Doc says I can have that one done in a month!
Haleluya!
Don't hesitate a day longer than necessary!

That's great, Chuck!

A friend of mine had it done recently, and was completely happy after a week, though the eyedrops had to be administered for a bit longer than that.

I'm sure eye #2 will go just as well.

But only needs doing ONCE !!

Hi Chuck
Good to hear all is going well. I would not worry about it clouding over, they told me it may happen, but 4 years on it still ai'nt.   Aestus, it must be all that horizontal rain you get up there. (only joking i lived in Forres for a while about 35 years ago)

A point of interest to anyone else having the "opp".  I have been short sighted all my life, great close up vision, useless distance vision.
What i did not fancy was suddenly things being the other way round after 68 years. So i asked if it was possible for things to stay the same way (but without the gloom), no problem, they can put your vision anyway you want it. :med:

Cheers  Deko       :nrocks: :ddb: :ddb: :ddb:

Much improved, Deko. Dr says 20:25 in the eye that was operated on. Dr has decided to wait a few more months to do the other eye. Ordered my new glasses Friday.
Still having a few "floaters" in the op eye but am told they will clear.
