Spiral flute tap question |
(1/2) > >> |
MadNick:
Morning, I managed to pick up a brand new 5/16 UNC spiral flute tap for pennies. It doesnt feel like its made of steel though, looks more like a ceramic finish to it. My question is, would this be ok to use as a plug tap in stainless steel please? Nick |
DMIOM:
The surface can be misleading with all sorts of coatings - however is there a coloured band on it? if so, what make is it? Yellow is usually general purpose and Red for high tensile; BUT then depending on maker, typical coding is Green = stainless and Blue = aluminium (however Guhring have Blue for stainless !) Dave |
MadNick:
My mistake - it is HSS, worked like a treat :) Nick |
