DTI toolpost perch

Evening,

With my bargain £1 DTI refurbed and ready for action I made a perch for it on my toolpost -



Took a couple of hours to make the perch and cut another slot into the toolpost to house it.

I used it today and it saves a load of time setting up the mag stand - very happy

You'll get a lot of use out of that, Nick.  I got so fed up with wrestling with the arms on my cheap mag mount trying to get the DTI in the right place that I made one to fit my QCTP like a toolholder. Much easier to set up and gently bring the finger into contact using the cross-slide and carriage handles.

@Andy - you are so right.

In my quest for accuracy I use the 4 jaw chuck all the time as my self-centering 3 jaw has seen better days and, if you use a 4 jaw, youve got to have a DTI on hand.

Very nice job Nick. Simple and effective. Why is it I never think of things like that?   

I won't even go into the Rube Goldberg contraption I threw together to use on my lathe the other day.

Many years ago I was looking at a Morse 1 Dixon QC holder and wondering why did they bother making it. Then I thought what if I mounted a DTI in it, best mod I ever made.
I cannot for the life of me see why any sane person would mount a DTI vertically  , when , if mounted horizontally, you can use the cross slide for coarse adjustment.
Once you get a bit of experience you can centre quicker than using a collet, well you can if you had to change the collet, that is.
