Deko:
David, I got one of those holes in my toolpost as well, came free with the toolpost, but never used it, and would sell it if i could get it out. :loco: Cheers Dek |
Stilldrillin:
Stew, Dek. Don't like to see holes, even free ones, with no obvious purpose. So, I made an anti rotation/ location, screw in widget, for mine......... David D |
lordedmond:
david they were in the dikson ones and I believe they were for a indexing arrangement but as with all things when the are reproduced they just do it with no thought , Stuart |

Holy smokes, Stew, that's just amazing. Resembles a wedding-cake, perhaps you could sneak it past the better half as such? Also, a HUGE thank you for showing all the build steps, I learn so much from your posts. One Q about the filing buttons; do you harden them? Or do you just rely on stopping when you start scratching them? And can you give me an idea of how long it took, roughly, to file down the ends of the crosshead bar? I tend to get bored with filing after about 3 minutes, so if it's a 4 hour job, for example, I'd be looking to do it on the rotary table... Meanwhile, have one of these: :nrocks: |
sbwhart:
Ade I tend to keep the buttons soft, and use them as a one off, some people do harden them, then the file skids over them, I prefer just to scratch the surface of the soft ones if you have more than one rad to do you can usualy give them a part turn so that you've got a clean untouched bit of button to use, to do the cross head i would say 10 min max. Hope this helps Stew |
