Hello Eric,

I do not think it should be left to the Mods, that puts an intolerable strain on the Mods.

It is normal forum etiquette  to stay on topic, and I think it is Rule No4 here “Stay on Topic”

My objection is when 2 or 3 members start and discus their own topic sometimes totally irrelevant to the OP, even gets a little heated sometimes.

I don’t care about my posts it does not bother me, nor does it bother a lot of members it can add to the fun.

All I am saying if the OP is new to machining be careful and try to answer the question without going off at a tangent.

I have noticed over the last 3 months or so it seems to have got worst, and I just thought I would comment on it.

I know we're all mucking about here. But many of us do try to aid the new members.

But just as Eric said, wandering is what happens in real life. It's so very hard to control!

Everyone who has read this thread will undoubtedly have the main message of it rattling round in thier heads when talking to "newbies"  and will hopefully remember to answer the questions that were asked :thumbup:

100% agree with everything said. There is nothing wrong with wondering as it normally is interesting or informative and on the odd occasion when it has happened to me and I really need an answer and think the off topic rants have lost focus of the thread, I say so and bring it back on topic.

I don`t mind a bit of wandering.... ummmm... pies!!

EDIT - just while I`m ranting...(because I have tried to tame my ranting over the lasy year!!) the thing that annoys me more than anything is inappropriate and poorly labeled subjects headers to threads!!! grrrrr!!!

If you figure out a solution to that one, please forward it to 98% of the people who send me email during my day job!!!

Maybe we should have this thread renamed "Meandering Threads" ;)
