Upcoming server move
« on: October 18, 2011, 02:48:48 PM »
So once again, because of faulty hosting, we will be making another server move.

I am not sure when, but it will be within the next week. I have secured new hosting and have a new VPS. We are going from a Windows 2008 server to a Linux one. So as I play around with it and get comfortable... we will make the move.

Tired of pulling out my hair over this.

Watch this space for more info.
Science is fun.

Eric, we are grateful for keeping this wonderful site up and running.

Heya Dick

Yup. You are very right. I am in IT... just not an OS guy. I do virtual infrastructure (VMware)

Thing that sucks about our current host... Windows 2k8 on hyper-V...

Good luck with the move - so long as you're happy around a command line, Linux offers so many benefits over Windows it's unbelievable that MS are still in business!

Looking forward to a stable future... and I'd like to join everyone else in saying thanks for all the hard work you put in - it's much appreciated!  :mmr:

Cheers!
Ade.

May be the same server as it is still in Canada, I would wait for the bosses announcement before rejoicing!

I have been trying to get on at different times when I come in for a cup of tea with no success...until now when we are back up at lightning speed!

As you say, wait for Eric to give the good news...could be the old one with a panic on!

No... the move wasn't done. Apparently they did maintenance last night and didn't inform me prior. SO, I had no access to get the data. I was planning on doing it last night. Will shoot for tonight.

Service has been very poor in my bit of Yorkshire for the past week, home page ok but everything else either takes an age to load or throws up an error message. I had pretty much given up trying up till this evening. Not seen pages load as quick. now to get back and drool over whats been giong on this week

So I have to reschedule the move. Looks like Monday or Tuesday. I was going to do it last night, but the host decided to do maintenance. They are trying to fix their slowness problem. They didn't bother to let me know!  :bang: They are the worst.
