Replacing a knee on a danish VPF-1 mill

I want to replace my old knee because of some "chracking" sounds when moving.

the "new" knee has a swingable table too - whitch the old one didn't have.

Can you take it further apart to make it easier to get it down the stairs and into the shop?

Without knowing anything about your mill, can this knee completely replace the old one without any mods??? It sounded like that at least.

It should be possible to move it in one peace - about 240-250 kg.
It SHOULD replace the old knee without any changes - so I was told at least !

200+ kgs is not something to try to lift on your own, and definately not down some stairs!!

An engine-hoist on wheels would b e useful to begin with. 5 steps would make a height difference of about 75 cm wich should be possible to slope out using a couple of 2x4s temporarily nailed together and supported by the steps to avoid bending. Then using a rope and blocks would make the travel down the slope well controlled I think. But still not a one-man job as guiding, pushing, trimming and looking out are best done by more hands and eyes than just two of each.

Not to mention that company always makes a task more pleasant  :)

Keep us updated on progress, this is interesting!

I'm fully aware of my capacities - absolute max is 50kg !

So I have made a slide for the stairs and a small buggy for the 18-20 meters transport to the shop door.

Inside the shop I can move it on the buggy.

Nearby and over the mill I have my crane - http://kelds.weebly.com/loslashbekran.html

Maybe I runs out of buggies because I have to have at least one for the bed/table while mounting the knee.
