Question though, are they not supposed to have RH/LH threads on each rod? I have a pair of Jorgensen wood clamp, and they operate more like a turnbuckle. I guess as long as they work.

Mine have RH threads, Paul. With the knurled ends of the thumbscrews on opposite sides, as in Aestus's pic, if you hold one with one hand and use your other paw to hold the other thumbscrew and then rotate it as you would a crank-handle (so the jaws go round and round between your hands), the jaws stay parallel as they open or close. With LH and RH threads, the thumbscrews would need to be wound in and out individually

Being an amateur, it took me ages to work out how to do that....
