stirling lad:
can anyone tell me how to remove the layshaft from the head casing on a conquest ? ive removed the circlips at either end but its still stuck fast and im afraid of damaging the small bearings if i force it..I'm trying to change to taper bearings on the spindle and metal hi/lo gears at the same time  but i'm stuck at getting the old busted plastic gears out first..any advice would be greatly appreciated...:bang: ....Mike... |

i just knocked mine out with a pin punch from the "chuck" end. i reused the bearings as it took very little effort to remove them |

Hi Mike. I've never removed a Mini lathe shaft. But the mill is "the same"...... I removed the circlip, and just tapped it through/ out with a piece of brass bar, from the opposite end. Same as Jim! See pic. Bottom of page.... http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=4312.0 |

great!!! that worked a treat, gents thanks again... and some gentle coaxing with a hammer and wooden wedge removed the larger bearing that was still on the chuck end of the main spindle.. now to rebuild!! I just hope its as easy as they make it look on U-tube..I think i might be being a bit optomistic there... :zap: ...Mike... |
