Gentlemen,
I have recently completed a T-5, 5 speed transmission for my 302 V-8 engine. The project got started with a visit to my son's home last fall. Over in the corner I saw the full sized trans of which you see here. Over the next months I tore the trans apart and made a complete set of drawings to build it, 14 sheets to be exact.
The cases were hand machined from blocks of aluminum with all radii stepped of mathematically. The full sized trans has helical gears which upon much studying were deemed to extensive to copy so spur gears were substituted. This involved coming up with gears that would approximate the proper ratios while naturally maintaining the proper shaft spacing. In the end three different pitches were used, 36, 40 and 48 D.P. Although the 48 pitch cutters could have been purchased I figured while I was making the hobs for the others I might as well make them also.
This was an extensive build and documentation so the complete works can be seen on HMEM. I'm sure many of the members here have followed this build but for the ones who haven't I am attaching several pictures of the competed trans along with a video of the shifting operation.
