Yes, I totally agree.

My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and I am constantly asking my wife to invest in a suitable small watch or clockmakers lathe like the Cowells CW90 or perhaps a 8mm collet Lorch.

Not getting anywhere so far but good to see others with the same idea.

I was looking at a 3 1/2" gauge loco for my sons the other day - got one but it needs a lot of work ...  I claimed they need something now or will lose interest! Not getting far either ...
