John

Congratulations. Definitely something that you should be very proud of. First class all the way, casting, machining and presentation. Thanks for allowing us to look over your shoulder as you built it.  :D :D

Cheers

Absolutely brilliant John! You must have asbestos hands!  I really want to show this vid to our health and safety department at work too!

That is with pretty wet steam by the looks of it too, imagine it on superheated stuff  :jaw:

Hi
Lads
Got some more bits made
Oil lube box this has a wick feed in to the cross head guide

Oil from this runs through the cross head then down a drilling through the con rod in to the big end

Seems to work fine
Made a cylinder displacement lubricator

What do you lads use for cylinder oil
Some reversing gear will be next ,Then a paint job

Nice going John

How did you make the lid for the oil box ? - it looks like the lid is made from plate, but the hinges looks cast

Hi
Time to finish this engine
After a couple of hours running i took it apart tonight
No wear at all on any of the bearings the cylinder and rings are bedding in nice
Machined a recess in the base plate for the reverse eccentric (time to make it go backwards)

I have no idea how I missed this project before.... but there's only one thing I can say about it:

:jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw:

Love the casting work, love the machining work, love the look of the whole thing (hmm, except for that crosshead block, I'd have made it curved to match the other bit - but hey, that's such a tiny nitpick it barely deserves a mention and besides, it's much better machining than I've ever done), and I especially love the sound it makes on steam at low RPMs - exactly like a steam locomotive.

Absolutely fabulous work, John, if I can be 10% as accomplished as you then I will feel like I'm on top of the world.
Cheers!
Ade.

Superb build and a great engine. I just today saw the youtube vid. Excellent in every way you should be rightly proud of yourself.
