Another question for our members on the Eastside of the pond
« on: April 26, 2010, 10:21:54 PM »
I 'm looking thru some Model Engineer magazines I picked up at the show. Something I noticed and thought I'd ask. In the sections covering the road trips for the larger scale road/showman engines, and the other live steam events. There looks to be any number of men and women in pictures smiling and shaking hands. Now they all are wearing gold chains with hub cap sized medals/badges on their chests. I'm thinking they are politico's of the small town nature.
Or at least they look like mayors etc. Is that who they are? And do they always show up at these small gatherings? And are the badges the signs of the office?

As in the states you couldn't get a politico(or as I call em, unindited co conspirators) to show up if you had a gun to their heads. That is unless they smelled money as in bribe  :bugeye:
thanks

Glen....     :worthless:        :)

Sounds just like a Mayor/Mayoress type of thing to me..... Yep, most of the town "officials" do that kind of stuff! Sometimes your lucky if you can get rid of 'em after!

Yes, most likely the Mayor(ess) wanting to get his/her photo taken. I met the Mayor of Liverpool at a function many years ago. Prising out one of the 365 largish diamonds which, with other gems, adorned his chain of office would have enabled him to pay off the considerable amount he owed his Council in local taxes.
The big cheeses in some learned and professional bodies, old trade guilds and livery companies sport chains of office  :ddb::ddb: , but I don't think Model Engineering Clubs show off like that.
Or maybe the local Freemasons were visiting

Ok then it was one of those gathering were they must have all had them hub caps on chains as their was about 6 or 7 in one photo, at least they didn't have them line up according to size of the plate. Thanks, it is still hard to believe that they let them run on the public streets and the people in the villages were all out on their lawns and waving etc.
Thanks
