I'm new here!
« on: June 01, 2011, 03:37:27 PM »
Hello to the group.  I'm new here so this is my story:

I'm older than most of you but less experienced.  I've been messing around in the shop fora few years, making mistakes and learning.  Making parts and scrap.  I have built a few steam (air) engines, all of my own design.  Making engines is lots of fun but I mainly enjoy the design and engineering part of it.

I seem to be stuck in a pattern. Most of the engines that I have built belong to the axial engine category, bent-axis, wobble plate, swash plate, Z-shaft.  At the moment, I am nearing completion of a two cylinder double acting design with a Z-shaft.  Since it's almost finished, there won't be any progress posts but I'll put up a video when it's done.

Very nice work Jerry!

What equipment do you have in your shop?

Best,

Nelson

My lathe is a HF 9x20 made in 2001 and bought used but in good shape.  I have added the 4 bolt compound clamp and a QCTP.

My mill is a HF mini mill (X2) to which I have added the Igaging scales as DROs for the X and Y.   I plan to replace the torsion counterbalance with a counterweight system in the near future.

A bench top drill press and a 6" bench grinder and a Hitachi 10" tablesaw round out the stable.

The most important piece of machinery in the shop is the air conditioner. Without it, my shop time would be severely limited by the mid Florida climate.  It also keeps the rest of the equipment from rusting.
