I had to look up what a trifle is....
Looks yummy though!

Eric,
At one time, trifle was made for special occasions like Christmas, birthdays etc, many years ago.
Nowadays you just pick up ready made gloop off the supermarket shelves, that taste of absolutely nothing.
These are very easily made ones that come in a small box called 'Birds' trifle, and come in different flavours, where you (shocks and wonderment!!) actually make it yourself from the enclosed ingredients.
Mal makes me one every couple of weeks, when I have behaved myself and been a good boy.
If the lads in the UK really want to remember what they were like, they should get their partners better trained, and get them to make one occasionally.

Didn't know the box contained sherry, wouldn't be proper trifle without it :D
I also prefer it made with sponge fingers rather than trifle sponge

With that recommendation John, I need to figure out how to get/make one! :headbang:

Jason,
I can't stand it when they put any alcohol into it, I am almost a complete coffeetotaller, except for a tiny amount of beer when I go out for a meal, and the sponge fingers contain a little too much sugar for myself.
I'm sweet enough already
Eric,
There are plenty of recipes, but the basic must have at least jelly, sponge cake of some sort (that the jelly soaks into before setting), vanilla custard and topped off with cream (or mock vanilla cream). As mentioned, some people like to add a little sherry (sprinkled onto the dry sponge) to give a bit of a kick, plus you can add all sorts of fruit into the jelly base.
