A couple of quickie fixes

John, just wanted to jump in and thank you for this post. I used your method of sliver soldering last night to get a super joint - I`ve never used a ring of solder like that, always fed it in - this way worked really well.

I'm glad it worked for you, it has done for me for more years than I care to remember.

The only time I really ever feed wire is when doing a very large assembly like a boiler shell, where you can't gauge the amount of wire that is needed because of the usual uneven surfaces, all other times, it gets the silver solder laid on or around the joint treatment. It is just a lot easier for my way of working, other people may find wire feeding more to their liking. So once you find a method that works for you, stick with it, but never forget, that in some situations, other methods may be required.
