Oilite or phosphor bronze |

John Rudd:
I seek the opinion of the collective...I should know the answer to this but I've forgotten... I have a worn oilite bush that I need to replace..Can I use phossie bronze instead and which grade should I use? |
John Rudd:
Thanks for the reply, Ok, a bit more info.. The bush fits inot an alloy housing, a shaft passes thru driving a magneto on a stationary engine that I'm rebuilding. The lube system is by splash feed with a scoop on the bottom of the big end cap..So it looks like the oilite bush is to some degree self lubing... I've looked at buying a new bush but the size I require isnt available.. |
John Stevenson:
You can machine oilite with a sharp tool. try sourcing a bush with larger OD , smaller ID and machine to size. It's also available in solid stick form but not usually cheap. Out of interest what size are you looking for ? John S. |
John Rudd:
John, The bush I need has the following attributes: i/d = 0.75 in o/d = 1.00 in top hat diameter is 1.125 in and is 0.125 in thick. overall length is 0.75 in I had given some thought to buying a larger bush as a last resort, if I'm going to be machining, I'd rather do it from scratch...If I cock up machining a bought bush, I'm no better off, if I machine from bar stock, then at least I get more than one chance....Bought bushes aint cheap... :( |
John Stevenson:
That's a stock bush, let me check suppliers |
