Rob, thanks for some pictures of your CNC setup...I`m dying to have something to play with in terms of CNC soon!
I spent plenty of time reading over your info and pictures but I must admit, I`ve spent a good 20 minutes trying to work out what book you have been reading, the one the engine is sitting on ... "Surgeons Gen....?   By Pregnant women, premature birth and .... ?"

I was thinking you were perhaps a midwife or something... then I realised it wasn`t a book but a packet of cigarattes!

I forgot to add...what lathe do you use for all your tiny parts - valves and spring retainers etc.

Chris, I did the same but only for about 5 mins!

I'm interested to know the answer to your question too, because the way I see it, you can turn small parts on a big lathe ...

Just hope the carb can suck the fuel up, quite a few of these engines are very choosy about fuel tank level. On teh vertical I'm doing at teh moment it has a fuel pump so its no an issue.

Hi Rob
That Tank looks great
The mounting tabs are sensational and I doubt u will have too much trouble with the kerzel sucking up the fuel from the tank.
I did  have some trouble filling up the tank due to an air lock, but a breather fixed that.

Hi   Rob       , question for you, did you find out why you cnc m/c took, as you put it “ a mental” , I was wondering did you programme each pocket separate or program one pocket and loop it to a 60 degree datum shift and repeat it another 5 times , very strange it should go walkabout on the 4th pocket ,???,,,,,,,,,,jeff,,,,,,,,

Hi Jeff

I still have no idea why the machine went walk about , as it cut the next two flywheels no problem , I selected all the pocket chains and programmed all to the same depth ,wall offset ,,,,,,, never thought about doing it  "program one pocket and loop it to a 60 degree datum shift and repeat it another 5 times"  maybe because i am not that good

It could be the old computer i am using  ?

hay Rob
try using a pencil eraser to clean your computer's Ram terminals,
might give it a new lease on life  :zap:

I don,t think it is your comp rob , I have a similar problem on  our m/c ,
When I want to machine pockets  equally spaced on a given pcd , rectangle pockets no problem , If I want round pockets ,sometimes  I have to datum shift a fraction of a degree ,( .002 / .oo4 of a degree) after the first pocket , if I don’t it will miss some of the pockets out , we've put it down to an Anomaly in the software, :offtopic: apologies for going of topic in your thread  , enjoying the thread so far rob , some 1st class machining ,, be proud to put my name to any of your jobs , looking forward to more of the same from you ,,,,,,cheers  ,,,, jeff

Hi Jason

If i have a  hight problem ,,,,,, i will fit a lift pump  :dremel: ,,,,,, loads of room on the carb side of the engine for a small pump  :med:

You will probably need a different carb as the pump will still be pumping while the engine is missing and will flood the carb. I've just posted some pics of the pump and plumbing for my IHC here

Hi Jason

Was planning on pumping the fuel up to a bowel reservoir  ::) just below the carb with a drain back to tank  :med:  ,,,,a bit like a Fairbanks Morse model T carb as used back in the day on stationary engines

Then if it wont run properly I suppose you will also have to add irritable bowel syndrome to the list of possible problems.

Moving on

Milled up the stock for the tank ,, i machined most of the material away on the HZ mill as it was quicker to do it that way .
Mounted to  my ally fixture plate ready for the CNC to do its job.

First profile complete .

Next up a chamfer around the profile

Next up the O ring grove 1.5mm

Then spot drilling the bolt down pads ,,,,,,,, nearly had a disaster on this operation ,, i for got to program the tool to lift to clear the job as it moved to the third hole  ::)

Pocket next  :dremel:

A bit like watching paint dry is this CNC lark  :coffee:

Job done
