What you are after is called a tapping stand.
As long as you keep things square, they are very easy to make.
The only real difficult bit is getting the small drill chuck to run true on the tapping shaft.
I actually made mine by using the back edge of my marking out table, and swinging it into operation only when needed.
You should easily be able to copy the one Arc sell.

Very late reply. But better late than never.
Harold Hall has the plans for his tapping stand on the web. It's an interesting design and doesn't need its own chuck.

Thanks every one for good reply but I think I am gonna make myself a "tophatt". It's a small cylinder that just hold the tap in possision and it's easey to work with.
