Magnetic Strips at Aldi
« on: January 20, 2011, 10:55:08 AM »
Just happened to drop in to Aldi and they had these:

£9 for two strong magnetic strips seems OK to me.  Useful for QCTP holders:

or any other stuff.... :D

I try to keep my toolholders well away from magnets, It's a devil of  a job to get the swarf off the cutter and you can't see the tip for that final fine cut.

FWIW I use scrap hard disk magnets to stick the chuck and drawbar spanners to the side of my mill.

I must admit, I find it a real annoyance when tools become magnetised!! That being said, I like the idea for the qctp holders.

I used to keep a magnetic parts tray on my lathe to hold the spanners. Not any more - they are a pain when magnetized.

Here's my QC tool holder rack:

Please Guys,
Keep Magnets well away from your tools unless you have a demagnifier.
There is nothing more maddening that to get a build up of swarf on your cutter.

Here's how I keep my toolholders, a piece of wood with a groove along the bottom slid onto the lathe splashback with a length of ally greenhouse section screwed on the top.

the dovetail of the holder sits in the ally section.

I get swarf off tools with blu tac

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Tack

Screwdriver bit holders are the worst but the blu tac gets them clean.
You're right, it does look easy when its finished.

I know it is a little  :offtopic:

But if Wheeltapper has a look at this post, I am sure he will find a more efficient method of holding dovetailed holders, whether inside or outside dovetails, and very cheap to do.

Hi Bogs,
I did read that thread when you first put it up but your idea only works if one has an area of wall to fix it onto....................................................guess what :(

good idea tho.
